About Take 2

Take 2 are an acoustic duo comprising of Grace & Josh. The couple met in 2014 at popular music venue 'The Wardrobe' in Leeds, where they happened to both be performing after one another. Soon after, they began meeting for various rehearsals and it was only a matter of time before they started to apply for contracts overseas. In 2016, they completed their first summer season in Cyprus. Performing up to 5 times per day in local bars & hotels, Grace & Josh went on to become the resident duo for all weddings & events at popular 5* hotel 'Olympic Lagoon'. They returned the following year for one final season.

In 2017, Take 2 took to sea for their first time, successfully completing a short stint on a DFDS Ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo.

Having got an enjoyable taste for life at sea, the couple opted to apply for a longer contract with Carnival Cruise Lines. The following year, they found themselves performing 4 sets each evening whilst sailing out of Miami & around the Caribbean. Grace & Josh went on to complete 7 contracts for Carnival Cruise Lines, allowing them to make a start on their dream of seeing the world via their music.

During 2020, Take 2 were offered a 4 month contract at 5* resort, Blue Lagoon, Kos. They would perform 6 nights per week and even scored a residency in a local bar on their night off! Upon completion, they returned back to West Yorkshire with nothing but uncertainty as the UK begins to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. With all their gigs cancelled, the full time duo had to look elsewhere for work for the first time in their performing career. They began working 9-5 jobs in a call centre which enabled Grace & Josh to purchase their first home together in West Yorkshire. As soon as bars and hotels opened, of course they were straight back to doing what they love!

2022 saw Take 2 make their way in to the river cruising industry. They successfully completed a 3 month contract on the Travel Marvel Polaris - APT.

Cruising down the Rhine & the Danube, Grace & Josh were lucky enough to see places such as Vienna, Amsterdam, Budapest & Germany. The couple were required to not only perform musical sets on an evening, but also host other activities such as quizzes and games. They went on to complete another 3 months on the Polaris' sister ship, the Travel Marvel Vega the following year.

During September 2023, Grace & Josh were offered an opportunity to take to the open ocean once again. Boarding the Explora 1 luxury cruise ship in Iceland, the duo performed each night in various venues around the ship whilst sailing around Greenland and Canada, eventually docking in New York City. They were asked to extend for one extra cruise which allowed them to experience more ports such as Boston & Halifax - Not the Halifax they're used to though!

Josh has been a keen guitarist since the age of 7 which is when he began taking classical guitar lessons in primary school. As Josh grew older and his influences developed further, it soon became clear that music was more than just a hobby for Josh and something he wished to pursue as a career. Throughout secondary school, he would take weekly private guitar lessons from his home in Scarborough which soon developed into the occasional vocal lesson too. It was only a matter of time before Josh seeked an opportunity to showcase what he’d learnt so far, and at the age of 13 he did just that. Finding out there’s such things as ‘open mic nights’, Josh ventured down to a local pub in his town, performed 2 songs, and got his first proper taste of a performing musician’s life.

Finishing high school, Josh only became more excited by the prospect of playing and studying music further. As a lot of his friends went in the direction of sixth form college, Josh continued to believe in his passion and got accepted into the local music college, Westwood. He went on to pass a level 2 performance based course whilst gigging on the local Scarborough scene a lot and even trying his hand at busking in cities such as York & Leeds. Josh also began hosting his own open mic night at the age of 16 which allowed him to not only meet other like minded musicians, but perform regularly with them too.

As the 2 year course came to a close, Josh applied to study at Leeds College of Music. After being accepted onto the ‘popular music’ course, Josh moved to Leeds and began his studies whilst also making his way on to the music scene. He found himself swapping local pub gigs in Scarborough for gigs at the likes of Pryzm, Bierkeller, The Botanist and many more.

After a year at Leeds College of Music and not really gelling with the academic side of things, Josh opted to stay in Leeds but seek a university that was more performance based. He soon found BIMM Manchester, where he would go on to study for a degree. After another year on the course, commuting every day from Leeds, Josh began to question whether the university route was what he really desired after all. His answer soon became clear when he got offered his first contract on a cruise ship around the Mediterranean for TUI.

Not knowing that this would be the start of a big chapter for Josh’s performing career, he went on to complete 3 contracts on the Island Escape and multiple stints on DFDS ferries. This very much opened his eyes to what can be achieved by being a performing musician and Josh suddenly had a complete shift in direction from the university life he’d recently left behind.

Upon his return home, little did he know there was another big chapter awaiting him. What he thought was another standard gig in a popular Leeds music venue, The Wardrobe. Josh had his set gatecrashed by beautiful harmonies, by someone who not only went on to be his girlfriend, but his duo partner too, Grace. The couple began meeting for various jam sessions and rehearsals, but soon realised there was something more to be unveiled. The rehearsals soon turned to romantic dates and before long, Josh found himself applying for more contracts overseas, only this time, not alone.

As well as music, Josh also takes an interest in photography. He will be often snapping away whilst on regular walks with Grace. That is of course when he’s not watching Scarborough Athletic or practicing on his loop station!
